Pastors and Ministry Leaders invited to be part of the Fifth Annual Greater Rochester Night to Honor Israel.

Lori M. Sousa

On Sunday, March 27th Rochester area churches and ministries will gather together to host the Fifth Annual Greater Rochester Night to Honor Israel. In 2007 Rochester became the first city in the Northeast region of the U.S. to host such an event. Since that date, a Night to Honor Israel has become a welcomed tradition in our region.
A Night to Honor Israel is an expression of Christian solidarity with the State of Israel and the Jewish people. The Bible commands us to pray for the peace of Jerusalem (Psalm 122:6), to speak out for Zion’s sake (Isaiah 62:1), to be watchmen on the walls of Jerusalem (Isaiah 62:6) and to bless the Jewish people (Genesis 12:3). These and many other Bible verses have one overriding message– as Christians we have a Biblical obligation to defend Israel and the Jewish people in their time of need.
Event organizer, Lori Sousa says that it is important for our community to come together every year to honor Israel, Sousa states, “We come together on an annual basis to celebrate a people who have rarely been honored for the vast contributions that they have made to human history. Throughout history Jewish generosity has been rewarded with persecution and oppression. Unfortunately, much of this persecution has been done at the hands of professing Christians.” Sousa continues “In our generation we are announcing a new day in human history-a day where Christians stand with Jews declaring to the world that we are united in brotherhood.” Support for Israel is critical in our day. Global anti-Semitism is on the rise; voices are publically calling for Israel’s destruction; and the existential threat that Israel faces intensifies daily. In this hour, we cannot afford to be ignorant, apathetic or silent. When it comes to the existence of the State of Israel and rising global anti-Semitism, our community must stand with Israel in voice and in action. During the Holocaust, too many Christians were silent, and we were left to mourn the slaughter of 6 million Jews. Today, we must speak up and stand up for Israel. We must act to do whatever we can to protect Israel’s 6 million Jews from a second Holocaust.
The Night to Honor Israel is a non-denominational and non partisan event. Since February 2007, Christians United for Israel (CUFI) has held over 150 Nights to Honor Israel in cities across America. Our vision is to see the entire Christian community of Greater Rochester participate in this annual event. Last year more than 40 pastors and ministry leaders hosted the event, this year we aim to increase that number.
If you are a pastor or ministry leader, please mark your calendar and contact Lori Sousa to be part of this historic night. Lori Sousa at 232-1136, ext 21 or
